Senses and Spices

Our topic this term is all about India. We are looking forward to exploring the sounds, sights, smells and tastes of this beautiful country and its culture.

If you have any expertise that you could share with us to enhance our learning around this topic please come and see myself or Mrs Lynn.

Our first week in year 2

We have had a fantastic first week and settled quickly into Year 2.

We enjoyed Write Dance, Art and a Maths challenge on Tuesday and blew Mrs Jacomb and Mrs Lynn away with just how clever we are!

On Wednesday we worked with Mrs Jacomb and Mrs Gilbert to compose a recount of our first day using time connective cards to support us.

We have already enjoyed two PE lessons and read Roald Dahl's 'The Magic Finger' during our story sessions this week. We are looking forward to starting our new topic next week.

Week 2

This week began with an impact day to introduce our topic. We visited each year 2 classroom to explore different aspects of Indian life. We tasted foods, listened to traditional Indian instruments, learnt a bhangra dance, explored mehndi patterns and located India on a world map. It was great fun!

Weeks 3 and 4

We have worked extremely hard in maths to partition 2 digit numbers and then use this to solve addition and subtraction calculations. Many of us found this tricky but we kept trying. We are very proud of our new skills :)

We also visited the Gurdwara which was a fantastic experience. It was a long walk but definitely worth it. We learnt so much about Sikhism and even got to taste the delicious food in the Langar room.

Thank you to our parent helpers x

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We hosted a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan. We have worked hard to make decorations, write invitations and decorate cakes and biscuits.

So many parents came and we had the pleasure of serving the cakes, pouring the drinks and collecting donations. We are proud to announce that we raised a huge £458.27 :)

Weeks 5, 6 & 7

We have worked hard to develop our writing skills. We are practising our letter joins and trying to implement them in our topic writing alongside the correct spelling of the year 2 common exception words. We look forward showing you our fantastic work during our parents evening.

We explored the Forest School area for signs of Autumn during our charity Welly Walk, we used these signs as our inspiration for still life drawing. We were able to sustain concentration and draw for an extended period of time using light and dark pencil tones and some shading.

In maths we explored length and conducted an investigation about the size of our feet. We found out who had the biggest and smallest feet. We then compared the lengths to find the difference.
