Happy Confident achievers

Year 2 Term 4 2019

Our topic for Term 4 is 'Truly Scrumptious'.

We will be reading and writing recipes, making and tasting food, learning the basic principles of healthy eating and looking at where our food comes from.

We will also be developing our design skills by creating our own chocolate bars and packaging as well as adverts and persuasive posters to try and sell them!!

We will be exploring poetry about food, the different vocabulary used to describe it and writing our own stories about Hansel and Gretel.

We can't wait to get started!

We will be starting our topic by looking at chocolate. Click on the picture of chocolate below to watch a video of how chocolate is made.

Year 2 had a fantastic time at the Pet Gallery. We asked lots of scientific questions about how to look after the animals and keep them happy and safe. Thank you to all the parents involved with this fabulous afternoon.

For our Art project this term we are going to be designing and making our own packaging for a chocolate bar.  We went on a trip to Morrisons to research packaging that is already used for chocolates and sweets and recorded the ideas we liked.  We are looking forward to designing and making our own!

In Maths we have been practising our directions and positional language. We had to guide our partner around the classroom using words such as forward, backwards, left, right, turn, clockwise and anti-clockwise.  We also used the beebots and wrote out the directions that the beebots would need to follow to get to a destination.

After learning about the story of Hansel and Gretel the past few weeks, Year 2 wrote their own narrative of Hansel and Gretel. We worked hard on remembering capital letters and full stops, using describing adjectives and including words with suffixes to challenge ourselves. Once we had completed our stories we enjoyed reading them to Year R.

Jelly on a plate, jelly on a plate, wibble wobble wibble wobble, jelly on a plate!

We have been using our senses to describe jelly, we practised using exciting adjectives to describe what the jelly looks like, sounds like, tastes like, smells like and what jelly feels like when we squelch it through our fingers.

We completed our 'Truly Scrumptious' topic with a fantastic chocolate day! We started by making our own chocolate bars, chocolate lollipops or chocolate buttons.  Then we designed and made some packaging for our chocolate to go in.  We looked at the different fonts and colours we could use to see which would make our packaging stand out the most.  Finally we tasted different types of chocolate and investigated which chocolate melts the quickest.  Ask us to find out which one it was and why!
