Outdoor Learning
At Shears Green Infant School we are very lucky to have an outdoor space where we follow the ethos and principles of Forest School. Fundamentally, our aim is to build the children's self-esteem, confidence, skill, independence and creativity through an outdoor learning approach.
Our reception children have daily access to our woodland area where they can explore, create, investigate and instigate curiosity of the natural world around them. We have a particular focus each week, however, we follow the interests of the children and scaffold their learning. The children can choose to participate in the focus of the week or they can initiate their own learning with the independent skills that we practice and with the support of our experienced teachers. Over time the children are encouraged to become independent learners who can manage and understand risk safely.
KS1 have sessions to our Forest School area where they continue to build upon the skills previously learnt, with a focus particularly upon building skills of resilience, team work, creativity and respecting/connecting with the natural world.
We are very fortunate in that the school provides waterproofs for all children to ensure that all children can access our amazing Forest School. We are out in all weathers so the weather will not stop us from having fun!
